The kazaridaru— literally decorative (kazari) barrels (daru) are offerings to Shinto temples of decorative nihonshu barrels that are exposed empty. Known in the west as rice wine or sake (which is th Japanese word to generally designate alcoholic beverages), nihonshu has a distinguished role in several Shinto traditional ceremonies like weddings, new year celebrations and many festivals throughout the year.

It is believed that nihonshu is capable of connecting people to the gods.

I wonder why such belief.
