The opportunity was unique. I was walking on the streets of Tokyo, near Shinjuku Station, heading for a café within a whisker of my hotel, when I saw all this firemen pageantry. I picked up my camera and started to shoot, trying to get some nice compositions, but allowing myself to shoot first look after. The result … a few nice photos of Tokyo’s firemen in action. Taken under strong noon light, shades caused by the vertical rays of sun added profundity to the portraits and allowed the bright colours of their equipment and gear to standout in a very dramatic way.
